My last post at VS 1 was titled Gender Bias. Here I am writing about it again on VS 2. In the two years since the last post I can say that people’s outlook is changing and we are becoming a lot more sensitive and aware of the insidious nature of the ingrained gender bias we imbibe and perpetuate. I came across two recent videos on the internet that highlight this changing attitude and awareness.
One is a TED talk by Jackson Katz which highlights the importance of words in shaping attitudes.
The second is an interview by Andrew Garfield where Emma Stone calls him out on his rather sexist reply to a young boy’s question. You can see it here.
Words have power and dictate thought. If we monitor what we say and check what others speak we can change mindsets and attitudes.
